Tuesday 10th October - St Kilda Pt I

In an attempt to make sure Martin saw as much of Melbourne as possible we took him to St Kilda on the 112 tram!

Not quite the Beatles but a suitably indie pop group pose - Pops, Martin, Ma and Stu

The beach and sea - it looks warm and out of the wind it was but otherwise a tad chilly!

The mighty and imposing Palais Theatre. St Kilda is much like an area of London - self contained and with its own character. Not sure who the geezer at the fore of the picture is - does he look lost?

Stu and Martin avoid being sucked in by the mouth of Luna Park!

It's a colourful and iconic image of Australia fun parks. Go to Sydney and there's one there too!

Palms and roller coasters... welcome to the seaside!

Our initial stop was a burger bar called Grill'd and I have to say they did top rockin burgers - all fresh and totally lovely. I recommend more like these in London! Unfortunately for my mum my attempt to replace her bottle of nettle and spinach juice went a bit awry and she ended up with green gunk over her trousers. Oops. Fortunately the lads in the shop were most helpful and the sunshine meant she dried off a treat. Pop carried on reading his paper and seemed oblivious of the entire saga!

Now any trip to St Kilda is incomplete without a trip to an Acland Street coffee shop to try some of the stupendous cakes and food stuffs.

Here's Mum with a lemon tart.. I'll let you decide which is which!! :-)

Dad with a 'small' slice of swiss roll!

Martin with a slab of something tasty!

Stu with... ah yes he was without cake as we were under strict orders to make sure he didn't eat too much for fear he'd never fit into his wedding suit! Sorry bro - but sometimes we have to cruel to be kind!!
After cakes we walked to the A & K office to hook up with Steve and Ali. Last minute discussions of course - plans for Hobart trips mooted.
We then stood in the by now blazing sun to catch a 96 tram back to town. We had to say cheerio to Stu as he had some serious packing to do so we headed to the Southbank's Bearbrass for a very very tasty meal and plenty of Amber Ale!
